Abstract
This article examines the contemporary crisis in the public square. Beginning with the surface-level issues of poor dialogue, hyper-personalization, and incivility, it then explores two common explanations for the root of these problems: the political view and the cultural view. While these have some merit, an alternative, Reformational view is put forward, based on the Kuyperian concept of sphere sovereignty, that offers a more nuanced explanation of our cultural crisis, including the roles of the market and globalization in that crisis today.
