While James Davidson Hunters concept of faithful presence is a good starting point for Reformed Christian cultural engagement, his fear of Christian triumphalism from the Right and Left leaves his vision disappointingly subdued. Building upon Abraham Kuypers concept of the Reformed doctrine of common grace, this article seeks to go beyond Hunters faithful presence by recommending a transformationalism without triumphalism. While faithful presence may be the right starting point, Christian cultural development can and must go beyond it, given the crises in our world today.
